» Regional Design Workshops - Join us!

Workshops are currently planned for the following locations - click for details. Other workshops will be added as they are scheduled. For a complete list of events where you can participate in OLE Project activities, see the Events page of this website.

A key part of the OLE Project is understanding current workflows in libraries, and defining new workflows – where needed –  that will be the basis of the Open Library Environment. OLE Project Partners are completing training in Business Process Modeling, then hosting regional workshops where other libraries can work with them to define key library workflows. The workshops provide a forum for representatives of local research libraries and related institutions to discuss our work surrounding the current Integrated Library System and to suggest ideas on what this type of core system should incorporate. The workshops will provide an overview of the OLE Project, an introduction to the Business Process Modeling process we are using, and small group discussions of library workflows. Participation is open to any members of the research library community who work with the Integrated Library System either on a day to day basis or from a higher level, and who have their institution’s approval to attend. OLE will be developed as an open source library environment that meets the needs of research libraries. While care will be taken to design an open and flexible system that is useful for other types of libraries, such as public libraries, the focus of the project in this early stage is on research libraries. All attendees should expect to participate actively in workshop discussions. Workshop moderators are seeking a diverse representation of participants from a cross section of functional areas and institutions of varying size and mission. Attendees are expected to pay for their own travel. For information about a specific workshop, contact the moderator of that workshop (listed on the Event page for the workshop). For general information about the series of workshops, contact Jean Ferguson, jean.f@duke.edu.
